Freq Counter Hook Up
A. Locate TP-8 (it next to L-16 by TR34). Good, flip your set over and find where TP-8 is soldered to the pc board (That's your VCO output)and mark it boldly with a felt tippped pen, and the closest ground is. Get a 56Pf ceramic capacitor to solder in series with the inner wire of the VFO coax (don't forget to shrink-tube the capacitor and wire to keep it from shorting to the PC board before soldering the other end of the capacitor to TP-8). Solder the other end of your capactor to TP-8. Now solder the shield to the nearest ground. VCO is now connected.
B. Now look at your wires again for a BROWN one, that is ground....solder it to the ground foil on your PCB.
C. (Turn your radio on) Find your RED wire (that is your power wire). Now have a look at your volume control knob, you'll be looking for a red wire that should register 13.8 to 15 volts on your DMM. Please check your wire by turing the set off and on to be sure that this voltage source is a switched one. Follow the wire to your set's PCB and solder the pigtail's RED wire to it there.
D. (Turn your radio on) Now find your ORANGE wire in your pigtail, that's your USB B+ wire. Find your USB/LSB/AM selector knob and you'll find several wires connected to it. You'll be looking for four wires a Brown-white one, a yellow one, an orange one, and a red-white one. These will be 7.82VDC wires. One of thes wires will have power all of the time (the brown-white one) ignore this one. Now find the wire that has voltage in USB mode only (The orange one). (Turn your set off) Trace it's path your PCB and solder your ORANGE wire from your pigtail to where your set's orange is soldered to.
E. Now you are about done. You should have only a YELLOW wire left in your pigtail, That's your LSB B+ wire. (Turn your set on) As we covered already, Your set's mode switch has 4 wires coming from it....there should be a yellow wire that registers voltage only when the your knob is in the LSB position. (turn your set off) Now follow that wire to the PCB, and solder it to where it is soldered to the PCB.
F. Connect your counter to your pigtail and energize your set......It should work OKAY. It did for me.
