I have a Yaesu FT-890/at I see a solid 80 watts (pep) or so on my MRJ-962s tuner's meter. However my trusty radio shack shows a bit more

But in looking at the block diagram I see this unit uses twin MRF477 finals and a 2166 driver... now that would make 80 watts pep maxing those finals

but then in the schematic it shows a pair of 2sc2879 and a single 2166 driver

so which is it, and if it's a pair of 2sc2879 finals then surely I could get a little more power out of this thing, maybe 75 pep per final?

the 890 uses 2879's, yes you could turn it up past 100w but the bandpass filters won't like it & the difference in signal will be very little.

good point, I didn't think about that, I guess I will just allow it the headroom it has

man that's a healthy setup then, a pair of 2879s at around 100 pep is like 50% what they could be doing.
