Made a quick DX contact with Cuba today on 20 meters, Pedro "CO3RX" was calling, and I answered him...
Now I'd like to send this guy a QSL card, but was wondering, is there any restriction on sending something of this nature to Cuba....?
Will I end up on some government watch list because I sent a post card to Castro land....?

Don't mean to come off paranoid, but I know people that have been denied firearms purchases because a red flag went up during their NICS background check, later to discover it was because someone else with the same name was placed on a terrorist watch list.....:glare:
Don't want to give Uncle Sammy any reason to place me on their radar......

No restrictions. Look up his address on QRZ, or just Google CO3RX.

I'd been a ham for a few years before I went on active Navy duty in '63. I duly reported my DXing and produced several QSL cards and log extracts showing that I'd worked a few hundred Soviets, Cuba, and other areas not particularly friendly with the USA.

I still had a Top Secret clearance within two months.

The old Cold War "Banned Countries List" is gone. About the only political holdout is North Korea. They won't let their hams talk to us -- assuming there ARE any P5s on the air.

Too late the NSA already knows.:tt2:

Considering the very large Cuban population you have in the US (more Cubans in FL than Cuba) there's lots of mail going back and forth. You still can't visit unless you come up to Canada and go from here (lots do), the fine folks at Cuban customs won't even stamp your passport if you ask.

Restrictions on mail-QSLs-Cuba......

Hello,
There have not been any banned countries in years that I know of,you will have no
problems getting a Qsl from Cuba-it may take a few mos or so,I remember back in
the Day of .PO.BOX 8/88 USSR you were lucky toget any back-somehow I got a few
from themthey never rag chewed it was just rst and homebrew rig and antenna-73 -China
-Vietnam,cambodia and Libya were on a no contact list but all that is gone today-have
fun getting those Qsls I think its like Xmass when I get a new one in the mail.73

K8PG Paul cw is !!!

QSL

Cuba is easy to get a card from, as the guys said look up qrz.com it usually gives the qsl managers address...

DOCTOR/795

The "looking up the address on QRZ" part is a no brainer, did that for all the QSL cards I mailed out....

I just wasn't sure if sending anything there would put you on the government's radar for any reason....

I'll try and explain my concerns a little better.......

I'm a gun owner, and I live in the People's Republic of New Jersey where it's hard enough getting permitted to purchase and own a firearm. They look for any possible reason to denie you that "privilege", they rake through your background, check on relatives and their associates looking for any possible connection between you, organized crime, outlaw motorcycle gangs, or any un-American activities.....

I just figured if I can't hop on a plane at the Atlantic City airport and fly directly there without first going through another country...(I..E..Canada)...then certain paranoid factions of our State or Federal government might not like me sending post cards there either.....

After thinking about it I figure the hell with the state or federal idiots, I'm promoting good will through amateur radio, and Pedro Diaz is getting a QSL card from WX2MIG........

Just remember,Cuba is not so much anti-USA as the USA is anti-Cuba. Cuba just developed an F-You attitude after the USA embargo against it following the overthrow of a US backed leader sometime in the 50's.
