Hey Oggy, has any of your group done any comparison testing on Sirio's New Top One antenna? I don't know how they're selling here in the states, but I've read only one report and that was on Cooper's. It was a very good report, but it was just words as usual, and you may know how they can be about promoting product.

I won't post there anymore.

im curious too and have made at least 1 post on this antenna.
my current situation i can have a base antenna however
with some restrictions
1 no guy wires landlord does mowing
2 60ft. height limit to tip of antenna
i live in a valley so im told to get a beam or maco,i10k, ect
but that would be alot bigger to put up.i feel the sirio top 1
would be easier to get up to around 30ft than my current 2016

I really can't advise what is best in a valley, I live on pretty flat land here in Houston.

Hotrod, the only thing I can add is that the Top One has a rather broad face to the winds and is affected somewhat, so if your planning a push up pole without guy lines, I wouldn't go too high. It shouldn't be any worse than the 2016 however.

That said, the antenna is really light and fairly well constructed so even with the wind it should hold up fine. I would replace all the hardware you can with stainless.

I have my Top One on a 40' foot PU all the way out and I wouldn't feel safe without some good guys lines...free and clear with no trees around.

Good luck. Personally, I think the New Top One is about the same antenna as the original Avanti and the older Top One. I would not hesitate to buy it.

Marconi, is yours the older one like the original Astroplane, or the newer gamma-matched version?

I'm tempted to get a New Top One, but I run and old styled Top One I got from Coopers years ago.

Well I went up to the storage today and measured my original Avanti Astroplane and it's about an exact ½ wave from the feed connector down around either single side of the the loop and back up to the shorting bar, then it gets weird, less than a ¼ wave to the tip of the top hat...?

Perhaps the top hat is adding enough capacitive coupling that it finishes the top ¼ wave,

... or not...?

I really don't know WTF is that design, it's always baffled me. I suppose I could take a wild inspired guess but I'd just be

Maybe it's an upside down ½ wave with a ¼ wave counterpoise above it.

I do know this; It does not keep up with the Penetrator nor IMAX locally, but for DXing it might even better those two for shorter path DX due to perhaps a higher angle TOA.

The newer one also just appears to be a shortened ¼ over a ½ wave base/counterpoise? I have no idea, but I suppose you could match almost anything inductive with the right gamma.

in my area most runn a99s. theres one thatdoes use the astro plane with a emperior
5010. most one i talk to are for the most part in about the same area. outta
3 people the one with the astroplane comesin second. ONLY one that beats
him is guy that using a a99 on a 50 ft tower/mast.other has astrploane
on 30ft pole both using 25 watts on ssb.another has a imax up 30ft cant hardly copy
him.these are my local findings every nite here

All variables aside and all things being equal, the IMAX should be the top of the heap. Sounds like he's got issues.

...I wonder if he has ever tried using coax.
