On the back of my 2985dx right above the coax connector are two rca jacks. one is for a freq. counter for transmit freq. monitoring and the other is supposed to be for 12vdc optional fan according to the owners manual. on my radio one is marked freq. counter and the other says just REC. My question is what is it for if marked REC. not + 12vdc? :?

Thanks,
Roger

its for the fan, dont know why its marked rec. perhaps the chineese that built it did not know any better.

Cool, I like the idea of recording. I did not think it was for cooling fan since it dont have a bilt in amp like the 2995 but then why dont they tell this in the owners manual?

Any way thanks for the info,
Roger

it does not allow for recording, my 2985dx didnt have it. mine was labeled +12 VDC. its the plug in for the fan. hook that to your computer and you can kiss your sound card goodbye.

according to rangers service manual

8. +12 VDC
This “RCA Phono” type jack provides 12 VDC power for an optional external cooling fan.

I finaly heard back from ranger, here is what they sent me.

Hello,
This jack is used to connect a recording device. It records the receiving
signal or your voice modulation. It may also be modified for +12vdc for a
cooling fan.

well I guess mine is for recording since i bought it new and they come ready to record, but if it was a used radio i might of had to open it up and see for myself.
