My wife would like to thank Booty Monster for planting the seed in my head that I need a new radio! Anyway I have been reading a few sites in regards to RCI 2950dx and keep finding comments about a E-chip and to find a shop that does the conversion or sends the E-chip or I am stuck with a non convertible radio (no 11 meter). Where can I buy a 2950 untouched with whatever I need to be able to take to my local tech and have it converted and peaked? Copper offers to convert for $30 but I don't want them to convert it I want my tech to do it. Looking at H&Y but $ seems high compared to copper is there a reason for this? By the way Booty I owe you one!

no thanks necessary ;)

sparky sells it for 280 already converted and aligned if youre interested .
be very very careful who you let work on the 29xx series of radios . they use SMT for the build (very tiny parts) and typical cb techs will screw them up .

a few more links to info on then that you may find helpful , if you haven't seen them already .

I have not dealt with a lot of different shops, but, there are several, like the ones you mention, that will keep the e-chip and just send the radio if you don't have them tune it. Now this is what I've heard across the forums.

So, you might want to do what Booty Monster mention.

I have looked at both the 2950 and 2970 but I think I would rather have an external amp than the 2970 besides I haven't used my amps in about 2 months now and I'm thinking about a sale to fund the 2950. Thinking of selling my 3 mobile amps and keeping my X-force base amp just in case.
