got a ? for someone that may no the answer as ive tried everything i can think of and still cant seem to find the problem...

i have a RCI 2970DX and on this radio i have a super sidekick base mike that i wired up myself....anyway when i do the mike plug up on the radio female side i get a like key up on ssb that flicks up and down on the needle and it does come over your mod on USB an LSB....

this does not happen on AM or FM only on USB an LSB...

if i dont do the mike plug up and just leave it pushed in the radio its super fine OK on side band and fm an am with NO clickin sound or needle jumping about...

ive tried everything i can think of to try a fix the problem but cant seem find it..

i have a turner hand held mike thats wired up to the ranger as well and that does the same as the sidekick on USB.. needle flicks up and down and you can hear a light clickin sound ....but if i undo the mike plug and leave it loose its OK also..

Anyone have any idears??

cheers for help

Your english was a bit difficult to follow, but I think I undestand. I'd say that it's a ground issue, try searching out the mic wiring again, it seems that you have something wired wrong to me.

Be sure that the mic is wired correctly - and doesn't have any broken wires on the plug.

Sounds like stray RF is getting in from somewhere.
Are you running a linear amp with it?

It's quite common with the Turner mikes to have a slight spike as you key up on SSB. I know with many of the Turner +3 mikes I've seen this over the years especially on radios that have been peaked for max audio.

The leaf spring and design in the turners can cause a key up sound....just recently a local here started using a +3 with his 2950DX and the sound of the key up was present.

Of course it could be another issue as well :)

Is the lil insulater installed on the mic socket where the wires are soldered? It's usually a clear round piece of rubber or plastic that goes over the wire connections to protect the wires from shorting to the metal case of the mic's socket. If not there could be a stray wire protruding outward and making contact, then when the ring is screwed on the connection is made to the radio's chassis. Unscrewed, then no connection. I hope this also helps ya.

i think this guy^ as hit it on the head with what he has siad... i agree as ive tryed everythink else weeks ago....

it most be RF geting in from somewhere...dont forget the 2970dx has a linear inside...

? pluss how come if i leave the mike plug undone on the radio its ok..( no what i call feed back at all on side band )....its only when the plug is dune up on USB...

thank's for all help

Sorry - I think I misunderstood the question on my first reply. Have you tried the stock microphone, is the problem only with the turner microphones?

I'd recheck your wiring again as well - I've run those mikes and more on that model without any issue.

yes mate there is no porblems at all with the stock mike ..only the 2 x turners on USB...

wireing is super fine as they wouldent work on AM an FM pluss there new plugs with the plastick inside around the wire's...

ive lost count how meny mike's plug's ive dune over the years so as you can see im a bit stumped as to why i get feed back on USB... only happens when the mike plug is dune up fully home..

Anyone?

I think what you are seeing is the power mic picking up room noise. This then looks like a carrier on the meter when on LSB or USB. Try turning the mic gain on the radio down and the power level on the mic down. The problem should go away. Then you can dial up both alittle until you get good on-air reports.

no mate...

its feed back from the mike side to the radio...ONLY when you do up the mike plug on the radio...

all i do to get round it is leave the plug on the mike undone and its super fine on all band's...

i need to find out why when plug is dune up it the needle flicks up an down on the meater...

if i turn the mike down ( on the mike vol ) the feed back go's...not good as then no one can hear me haha..

its somert to do with the mike plug being dune up...as i siad this is only on USB an LSB not AM or FM..

thanks for help its lost me lol

I had a similar problem on a ss3900 i sold someone and they returned, turned out he'd been using a high powerered power mike set up full and had cooked the little coil/choke on the mike input board.

not sure if its the same problem you have though because it could be rf feedback as well, especially if your using a magmount in a vehicle.if it is feedback which it may well be as it only happens on amplified mikes then filtering the audio line should cure it.check out this link for instructions how to filter mikes at the bottom of the page:

MIKE WIRING GUIDE

good luck.

no mate but thank's for the help....

you see i have two turner power mikes..one hand held and the desk side kick mike...

the problem is on both the mike's when pluged in..ie if i do the mike plug up tight on the radio i get the signel meater needle shooting up and down as if its picking up feed back from some where off the radio...

if i undo the mike plug and just leave it just loose the two mike's work super fine on all band's.

so when i do the mike plug up to the radeo its shurting out somewhere on SSB mode...im still useing the side kick on the radeo....i just got the mike plug undone like and it work's fine .

thank's for help again this has lost me lol..

PS... its got be somert to do with the AMP inside the radio i think
