Last week I caught a RCI-2950 on Ebay for $125 shipped buy it now. I decided to go with that in the mobile since I've always been happy with the 2950 I already own.

It arrived today, and I decided to hook it up just to do a quick power test before I take it out to the shop and put it on the bench. I noticed early off that the radio has a strange frequency coverage.

This particular 2950 is tuning all the way down to 24.065MHz... If this was a 2950dx I'd expect somewhere around that range, but it's the old style 2950 with the orange display.

The serial number on this on is quite a bit lower than the one I already had. The Ebay 2950 is 101xxx and the 2950 I've owned for years is 409xxx

Anyone ever heard of a 2950 covering that big of a frequency range? Almost 24MHz to 32MHz?!?

New one on me, but if this pans out I'll be happy since I'll now be able to work 12m mobile as well.

Now you got me a thinking. i have one i need to check the number on it. And i am in the progress of buying another old style 2950. This intrigues me. I have had a lot of those older sytle 2950's and i don't remember ever seeing that on your radio. I would like to know more info on this if this is a modification for the older style 2950's.

last one i had covered 25-32Mhz and it was the older orange face version. never seen one go lower than the 25Mhz range. maybe it has been opened slightly for more TX freqs? have you looked at the insides to see if it looks any different than your current model?

I meant to ask that this thread be closed.

The RCI was acting very strange, so I replaced the memory battery and gave it a reset. Now it's back to 26-32MHz coverage which is what I am used to out of an older 2950... Guess something had gotten screwy with the CPU.
