A local guy sent an RCI 2950 in for me to look at...

he says it does not get out as good as it used to...

he says one day he was running a power mike turned way up and that it now does not get out like it used to...

however on AM I am seeing around 8 watt dead key and 35-40 on the swing (PEP)

I also see around 40-45 (pep) on side band...

getting good signal reports... ideas? or is the guy nutzo?

other thing I noticed is that the RF power knob does not change the power output at all...

Probably blew the front end out of the radio. Why would you ever turn up a mic to full blast??
JMO...

the other knobs seem to be just fine... just RF power control is dead... other buttons are perfect... sends and receives....

I don;t know really

Could a power mike with too much mike gain rreally hurt the radio?

As a guess, if you ran the RF output full open with the mic gain and a slightly poor SWR - you might have popped one of the two final output transistors.

Just a thought.

Sounds to me the teck that did the tuneing turned the power inside the radio wide open, that radio can be set for a 2-3 watt dead keyand swing to ??? on low power mine dead keys about 8-9 wide open. the variable power needs to be checked also the mic and battery. and and the rest of his equipment as well. Just my thoughts I am no teck. once again Watts,Watts,Watts, I told mt Teck I wanted to be able to run a small amp and he set it that way. on sideband I see a wider power swing in power. I never have problems and it runs cool.

well I found part of the problem... there was a cut diode in the radio... soldered it back up and now the radio sounds better, louder and the variable power is working

also turned out that the last guys that 'worked' on it just cranked all the power adjustment pots to max...

I got her dialed in and SOUNDING GREAT... ready to hit a little DX on her in the morning

LMAO looks like the "Golden Screwdriver and its matching side clippers" has been in there..

I see the old mentality of turn everything to the right and cut everything that looks like a limiter is still inforce.

Got to luv HACKERS !:cursing:
