Would anyone know what year these came out. I have one and it works okay. Was looking for some information, like year it came out, and any modifications, schematics, or tune up procedures.

Thanks,
ROCKONIC

Found a TRC-425 "Nine Scan" in 1979 catalog...

So at least the "Feature" was present before the 80's.
TRC-428 was introduced in 1981 - note the "Color photo" in the R/Shack Catalog

Now, I did find this...
(On eBay site)

So they sold it for several years, the Serial Numbers' first digit signifies the "Year"

As far as schematics, you'll have to contact Radio Shack - CB Tricks doesn't even have any photo or data on this...

Can't find a Sam's CB book that has it.

There is a "tuneup" procedure in Secret CB Vol 11 on page 48. It's not an alignment so proceed at your own risk.

From another Secret CB (Vol 14) I did run across instructions on how to install an "A" kit that was some type of channel modification. From that I learned this radio has the LC7131 PLL. Not easy to modify and those "A" kits most likely haven't been made for years. Not saying it's impossible, just no quick way to do it.

That's literally all I can find.

It's an orphan. RatShack would have printed a service manual for it, but tracking that down could take a while. Too late to order it direct, most likely.

Howard Sams had lost interest in CB by 1982 or so.
