Reclaim LSB 16

I've been coming into the radio room at the top of the hour for 10 minutes or so. Made quit a few contacts early on, but nothing since 1:00 CST. Some of the guys I talked to (non-members) were surprised to here me on 16 lsb. Said they don't hear too many people on 16 anymore. They were using 23 channel radios. I explained who we were and what we're trying to do and encouraged them to check us out online.
I have things to do now, but I'll check tomorrow and see how it goes.
Thanks to the great fellas I talked to today!! It was a great pleasure!

@Marconi, great talking to you! Your 955 and A99 are doing a great job, even with the QRM you were punching right through giving me a 5x7. Mother nature is truly smiling at us today, its always great to make contact with other forum members. I will be continuing to monitor throughout the day.

Thanks Chris, you were giving me close to S9 signal and as clear as a good bell.

Have a good day and God Bless you young man,

Man I made a few attempts on 16 but the signal just wasn't there. Worked many a station on the top side of the band though so it's still a win.

Eventual conditions on 16 will pan out.

Some folks today logged quite few contacts. I made 3 contacts early on - one to Michigan, one to New York and one to Texas - but that was about it. 226 out of San Angelo, TX was consistently making it over here with no problems for most of the early afternoon. I heard several other stations out there, but the skip propagation wasn't holding. 611 in NY came booming in for about 30 seconds and then I could barely hear him as he ran a QSO with 226. A station saying something "Chino" was trying to hail me, but there wasn't enough signal there for me to make him out.

As today's posts show, different parts of the country had different levels of success. My barefoot, 40 year old Realistic TRC 490 driving my home brew 1/4 wave ground plane just wasn't enough without the blessings of the DX gods.

We'll try again tomorrow.

I've passed through 16 LSB a few times today with no contact.
Did hop upband and caught a contact with Jamaica station143.

Edit: it's interesting to hear what guys are talking on 143 was talking on
Yaesu FT-2000 , sounded good

I'm with you. It is pretty cool to know what kind of rig the guy on the other of the signal is talking to you with.

Folks have thought that I was pulling their leg when I told them I was on my Cherokee AH 100 SSB walkie talkie. A couple of nets ago I had rigged a 102" whip with a counterpoise on a tripod in my back yard after my IMAX 2000 started giving me some worrisome readings. I talked to 226 and several others a bunch times that afternoon. With the right conditions, even the most humble set up can be heard.
