I've got a new President Lincoln that I'll be sending to Rogerbird soon for chipswitching. Any other mods some of you may recommend while its in the shop??

I forgot to ask Roger, does he also work on Uniden Grants? I've got several that could use a tune-up and may just send all the radios at once.

I've heard that the "mic gain mod" is very nice. I agree about the power mods, not worth it in my opinion. If you are a ham or intend to maybe be one in future, the 12 meter mod is probably worthwhile.

I would not unlock the clarifier...You have a VFO why would you need to?? I would have Rogerbird do his recieve mods to it if it were me. I had them on my Lincoln and I loved them. Also the channel guard filter would be a good addition

unlock clarifier :D , all radios should be unlocked imho as no cb radio is stable enough for good ssb under diferent temperatures and it stops the arguing about who is off freq and who is not so long as you are all on the same freq it dont matter, talking in a groupe with people all over the place sucks, another mod well worth doing on a lincoln is to open the tx and rx audio bandwidth up to be closer to the older cobra exports, that makes them sound like a real radio on ssb and fm, none of the restricted slight nasal sound that lincolns and its brothers have i dont know how it would effect am but it sure does work on the other modes, the emperors and alans are halfway right from the factory and have a wider audio than the lincoln they sound better for it every time, i modded my old lincolns audio and a friend compared it to his new lincoln, he was totally convinced his radio was faulty and would not accept it was because i opened up the audio a little, he wanted to give me money and his new radio for my well used example.

so bob, how did you go about opening up the audio? channel guard? my older models had great rejection and ears. my last production run 2510 the rejection stinks ears are okay but i haven't done the recieve mod on it. and as far as pusing them for every last watt, get an amp it'll be cheaper in the long run and more efficent. 73

i have not done a lincoln or 2950 in years but looking at the schematics here are some cap values that i would use that will get you in the ballpark, some slight changes could be needed to suit personal tastes, i added +b or +t to indicate which cap does what that way you can make alterations if you want to add or remove more bass or trebble , all values are in microfarrads and cap numbers taken from the lincoln schematic

RX....

C35 0.039 CHANGE TO 0.022 +T

C36 0.0068 .............. 0.1 +B

C105 0.01 ............. 0.047 +B

C107 0.047 ............. 0.1 +B

TX.....

C57 0.068 .............. 0.1 +B

C58 0.0047 .............. 0.0022 or remove +t

bleep mod,
changing c72 and c74 from .0047 to .01 will half the beep frequency making it sound like a george bleep, different and easier on the ears

there are a few more but i would need to sit down and study, the values listed will make it sound less constricted

Bob,
I know this is an old post but do you have any of the same value changes for a 2950 orange dispay. Would like to make it little more bassy. Thanks
