1 day 4 me will always stand out.

Now a lot of people that talk on the cb's run cb amplifiers to squish and squash others with stock outfits (mud ducks) and also tournaments, & also to agitate aggravate and enialate the airways with hash and trash and aggravation which i must admit there is nothing more fun than parking on a hill with you friends getting high and pissing people off on the cb in some other town.

The big thing is who's signal can wipe out others ie. SQUASH EM LIKE A BUG!

I was running a RCI 2950 (4 watt dead key swinging 40 watts on the high end, pushing into a TNT 1000 watt amp. You could stand 10 feet from my pickup at night with a florescent light bulb tube, and when i talked it would light up in your hands.

1 day I was driving home with a buddy in my truck and got pulled over by a cop on a motorbike.

This was not good, since I had a warrant for unpaid speeding ticket, driving on a suspended license warrant, as well as still driving without a lic that day!...... Was shit n bricks.

Pulled into a parking lot and gave the cop my info, and as he walked back to his bike, which might I add was on my back bumper and within 10 feet of my antenna.

I turned my CB on and my bud asked "whacha doin", said I got warrants use your foot to hit the switch and turn the amp on. looking confused he did and asked why?

"i got en idea"

Now in my CB I installed a switch on the microphone that if i turned it on it would not only key up and transmit but would lay a "dead key"

That means an annoying high pitch sqeal like beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeeeeee for ever until i turned it off (great to clear everyone off a channel lol)

But we could only hear it faintly in the cab from the cb speaker feedback, so i new it was on and going. Now with my truck off that amp would drain my battery in 5 to 10 minutes so I crossed me fingers.

Well the cop came back about 5 minutes later ticket in hand and said "my radio is out I can hear dispatch but they can't hear me, so I'l have to take your word that you clean, (had told him I have,nt been in trouble before ) sign here.

I signed that ticket and got out of there as fast as I could!\\To this day I have never herd of anyone squishing a cop radio before (they talk on such a higher frequency)

It was such a big deal to all my cb buds that they came over for a sesh to celebrate and smoke me out since I was not locked up!

If it wasnt for my budy as a witness they would never have believed it lol!

I used to that on my old mobile 4 pill and walk about 200 feet away with it glowing like a Light Saber when i was young and dumb, but earlier today i was talking on a CB walky talky and felt a burning sensation on my forehead and I have a little headache from it.

I can not votch for his story

some of you may know the area i am from
heck i likly spoken to more then a few on here

back in the days when i was using my AR-3300 (100 watt version)

i was on route 23 speeding to get to work (was running late as i often was)...driving south on route 23 right around entrance to smoke rise...

anyways
i had recently gotten my capri (those days they looked just like the mustangs) and on the rear hatch was a antenna that looked just like the 10K (this is back in 82 or 83) that went about 5 feet clear over my roof..

well i was doin 90 something as i came out of a left turn and knew often the cops waitted at next straight...but was simply running to late to remember that..

then came the flashing lights and siren..

oh well i was pulled over
cop came up...licence registration etc
i handed it to him and he returned to his car
he was maybe 20 feet behing my car tops 25 ft

as he got in his car
i turned my radio on and simly ran a dead key
holding the mike in my palm to be sure passing cars didnt create
modulation..

after a maybe 4 or 5 mins
i could see the cop tapping the dash and seemed he was doing so to the console as well
(i was nearly laughing but kept a straight face.again didnt want to laugh to then cause modulation)

well now the cop get out of the car and back towards me
so i quickly turned the radio off
(thinking....keep your cool)

cop came up on the drivers side and then asked me
are you using your cb
no...why you ask...

well just dont use your cb
ok...no problem...i wasnt using it anyway

he returned to his sqad car....
before he was barly in it again i had already turned it back on and was again holding down a dead key

i keep watching out my rear view and side view mirrors
this time not even a couple minutes went by (at most 2 mins)

now i see him really banging away on the dash and console
now though he is doing so with his radios mike

he was whacking away and i could clearly see he was pissed

he got out and started back to me
i quickly turned my radio off and looked all inocent

he came up on me and said
I thought i told you not to use your CB !!

i know and i told you before i wasnt using it and i am still not using it

why do you keep asking me
he says.....I told you not to use the cb

yes and i told you i have not been talking on my cb
is there a problem
i do not understand why you keep telling me not to talk on my cb
and i keep telling you i am not talking on it

then he says in a much more normal voice
come on...are you talking on the cb

officer
you can ask me a thousand times or a million times
i still am not talking on my cb

then he looks over at it mounted on the hump in front of the console

he askes
what kind of cb is that

you know officer
i do not know
i recently got this car and although i am here in nj my brother is in long island
he thought i needed a cb since i am in the boonies (or as he calls the boonies...i told the officer)

he then got more firm voiced again and told me to turn it on

ok..no problem
so i go to turn it on....but make like i do not know which knob turns it on
finally with the 4th or 5th knob the radio all of the sudden goes on (i made it looked like i was surprised and releived that it finally went on)

what kind of radio is that
he was clearly confused by the digital read out

so i told him
i am not sure...
i always thought that a cb was supposed to have numbers 1 to 40 or 1 to 23 or something

but this cb radio has all these different numbers
i dont know how to use it
my brother put it in for me
said it is good to go
looks strange to me though (as i look like i am a bit scared and perplexed by it......it actually was on 27,385 lsb )

so then the cop said (with a perplexed voice of his own now)
so you are not talking on the radio

no again..i will if you want me to...if you can show me what sort of channel i am supposed to use or however it works

you really not talking on it (he asked again)
no...why you keep asking me

how is your licence
you have any tickets

no...not that i know of
i just got this car recently
i was running way late and am not used to it i guess

why you ask

cop said
is the damdest thing
i can not hear head courters and have no idea if they can hear me...

well i have to go back to the station to have the radio checked out...
you slow down a bit....this is your lucky day

ok thanks
hope everything works out
keep it safe (i say that to all cops i meet)

so i started to drive away
as i was doing so i wanted to nail it to the floor to speed away as fast as i could but dared not risk it

less then a couple hundred feet from where i had been pulled over was a exit and the cop took it as he drove off

i then laid the hammer down and was gone

So what was i using
clear channel water AR-3300 100 watt version
astatic M6 with tone tear drop mobil D104 mike
a antenna that had a huge center coil that looked much like todays 10K mobil antennas (i forget the name of it though)

but it worked quite well
that was not only funny thing i did with that set up

and as screwed up that cop was
(as gullible as he was for accepting i wasnt talking on my radio
and mind i was not lying..he never asked if i was doing a dead key...he kept asking if i was talking on the radio)

i had a cop that feel for a much crazier sceme i used
that had nothing to do with my radio

i believe though
that when i did as i did
the west milford police (the ones who had pulled me over)
were using hf frequency's i believe between 30 to 35 mhz

i know they were still using such frequencys till a decade ago or even more recently

so i am sure this helped things in my favor a lot in what i did

i remember back then
while i had my older cobra 146 gtl
that when i was passed by a cop who was talking and my cb was on..all of sudden my radio went blank for a couple of seconds...

due to a time i got stuck way out in the boonies
i upgraded to the AR-3300 100 watt version

i then began to notice the oppisate happened and i now blanked out the cop car radios as i drove by

was in a parking lot while talking skip as a cop crusied by and i clearly heard his radio blank out fully

he looked at me sort of annoyed but said and did nothing
i was not a trouble maker

anyways
it is what it is
and was what it was

I used to set off car alarms all the time , open peoples garage doors , order my food through fast food joints without using the clowns head , I would go over department store P.A. systems , I could wreak peoples radio controlled cars/boats/airplanes and helicopters ect. ect. ,stereo systems / alarm clocks / telephones / TV's / ect. ect. , I could piss Ham radio operators off for screwing with there repeters , (not on purpose , just at the wrong place at the wrong time) but as far as I know , I've never came over a cops radio , but chances are , I try not to key up around them when I see them (better safe then sorry later) IM just grateful to the powers that be , that I don't have warrents out for my arrest and that I can get behind the wheel of my car and feel like I have earned the right (or privledge) to drive. I don't make the Laws , I just try and follow them 90% of the time. The other 10% is that I get lucky for simply going with flow of traffic. :)

If the radio was on 27.385 LSB how could there have been a dead carrier?

If there was a carrier present however I could see it possibly desensing a VHF Lo band radio that close but not a VHF Hi band unit. They have,or back in the timeframe you mentioned, had helical resonators on the frontend that were very deep and extremely effective bandpass filters.Virtually nothing out of band got through them. They also made nice notch filters for all the scrambled cable TV channels back then too. I wonder why the cop did not issue the ticket anyway. He could have done so without getting a wants and warrants report from HQ.

One day I was traveling into the city and came up over a crown in the road and since it was foggy I was not speeding but I did have my radar detector on.They were/are illegal here BTW. I never thought a thing about it as I was on a divided highway until through the fog I saw an RCMP Highway patrol unit on the shoulder. I quickly unplugged the detector just as I went by him and stashed it under the passenger's seat. Next thing I saw were the red and blues behind me.I knew I was not speeding and then thought CRAP! He has a radar detector detector!Sure enough he pulls me over and asks if I had a radar detector. I said "No sir.I thought those were illegal now".He then told me that he has equipment designed to detect radar detectors. I play along and admit that I had heard about them but I did not have a radar detector.I told him I was talking on the 2m rig when I went by him and it was quite high powered. It was only 65 watts but what did he know. The Diamond SG2000 7/8 wave antenna and the BIG HF antenna looked good on the vehicle at the time too.He asked me again if I had a radar detector. I again said no and told him he was welcome to have a look if he wanted too Please say no!Please say no! I thought  then I saw him looking at the power cord hanging from the cigarette lighter. GREAT! Of course he asked about what it was for. I told him it was for charging the batteries in my HT that was in the glove box. I opened the glove box and pulled out my Kenwood HT. Thank God he did not ask me to plug it in because the plug was the wrong size and type.He then asked me one more time if I was sure I did not have a radar detector. I told him that I should know better than him if I had one or not. I then pointed up to the sky at a jet on approach to the airport and told him that maybe it was the ground radar from a plane that caused it. "Oh well. I guess somethings just cause false triggers. Sorry for the inconvience and have a nice day sir" he said. I pulled back onto the highway and started to breath again about another mile down the road.

I keyed up my 55 box and killed a man with a pacemaker.

I had a complaint from a cop about a man saying he was having problems with his pacemaker when i keyed up and the cops asked me to shut the radio off or i would get a noise ticket...

they proved this by recording me coming through the microwave clock display somehow (voice and bothering the display)and knew my voice, and played it for my brother that worked in the front office..lol talk about weird sh&t...I keyed up in truck stops and went through all the stereo speakers and the gas stations P.A! and of course lighting up lights...

 Now there's something to brag about.
I think he was pulling your leg he would be in the pokey if he did that.

Oh I figured that! I just meant "OH Great. That's a great thing to think about."

i was always then on either 38 lsb or 19 am
in retrospect it must have been on 19 on am for my dead key
(so kill me....this was 20 plus years ago...dang)

yes i did the screwing up orders at local mcdonalds
funnist was

had a friend who just would not go up to this girl he liked
she worked in a 7 eleven type store

we drove up on night as he got out to go get a case of bear
his girl (that he didnt know how to talk to) was working

so i keyed up over their speakers

said hey the girl at the register
see my friend dave wearing the________
he doesnt know how to say hi to you
but he wants to ask you out

i noticed that he heard me calling over the speaker system
just as he was in the fridge reaching for the case

he dropped it and closed the door to turn and come running out
when the girl said
are you dave

so they got to tallking
some 15 mins or so later he came out with the bear

he said
good news is......it worked
bad news is.......if i ever do something like that again
he would kill me

ahh heck
those were the days indeed
things we did in our youth was too funny
