Hi all anyone who used replacement components from NTE/ECG where are you getting your parts now that NTE is closed? Any word about anyone taking them over? They were my go to or years especially since SK GE and RadioShack are gone

Thank You

Mouser, Digi-Key, fleabay.

We got away from the "baggie" parts when suppliers selling original-numbered parts appeared in the '80s. Had a local parts dealer who would reverse-cross from a NTE/ECG number to an original OEM "2S" part number. His prices were better. But that outfit dried up and blew away with the rest of them years ago.

We got serious deals on parts from 'secondary market' guys like All Electronics, but they closed earlier this year. These guys launched a similar operation, but their product line is a bit narrower https://aretronics.com/

Can't forget Marlin P Jones Associates in Florida https://www.mpja.com/

Linear and radio-final transistors can be had from ICA manufacturing/FatBoy. https://www.icamanufacturing.com/

Yes, they have a lot of other stuff, too.

But those are the highlights. As always, subject to change, just like the rest of the universe.

A local electrics shop I deal with carrying a lite of nte is now looking for a new supplier

Expanding this in a slightly different direction... that MAY seem more like fantasy....

everything is heading towards SMD (surface mount).

I have started eyballing these little "conversion boards" on Amazon. They are made with just enough surface mount printed circuit space to mount the appropriate surface mount component....

They appear to be very small and they come out to the right number of leads for the component.

It seems to me like... if you can identify a surface mount part (transistor, diode, whatever) whose specs match the original parts.... and get one of these boards... you might be able to MAKE a reasonable replacement.

I get that it might be "klunkier" than the original parts... but better "klunky" than no part at all.

Has anyone else pondered this???

Of course.... this will probably only work for small signal transistors... NOT finals and drivers.
