My brother was given a Hi Gain Penetrator, new in the box. He has an A-99 on his tower at present and thought about purchasing an Imax 2000. He was wondering if he should replace the A-99 with this penetrator 500 instead? I had one of these back in the mid 80's and it worked well as long as you sealed the joints to keep the water out. Anyone have some info on how the penetrator should perform against the newer antennas? Also, he lives in a hollow where he has hill obstructions. Thanks in advance

that antenna will do much much better then the A99 and Imax2000..
only antrenna better is Jay's Interceptor I-10K which has shared design of the penetrator 500 but scalled up in quality and power handling..

put that up..
he will like it..

This is not completely true. Jay's antenna modeled after the P-500 was the MASTADON 5000. When THAT antenna did not meet Jay's and Steve's expectations, a MAJOR redesign was employed and that antenna came out to be the I-10K. There are very little simularities between the I-10K and the P-500 other than them both being made of aluminum and both having a top-hat.

hey there..

Well yes..
you are right..
he didnt like the performance of the older design..
he also did not like the durability of the older design..

yes the Interceptor I-10K is far better then the older version..

i was talking more in general..in order to answer his question..
Myself...

I bought 2 of Jay's Antennas (interceptor I-10K)
the one on my roof came down i think 2 or 3 times last winter
(due to failled chimney mounts)...but other then twisted chimney mounts...the antenna itself was not at all harmed..

So far..this winter has been kinder..even though it is been far windier then last year (and i raised it 10 feet higher before the winter...but added 4 guy lines and 2 sets of very heavy duty chimney mounts)..

Anyone who has this antenna....knows without doubt...it is a exellent antenna...

is why i got the 2ed I-10K to put up at my friends place..
he used to only use the 148 GTL and yet nearly daily would talk to calif (on a clear channel)....now he stepped up to the 200 GTL and really gets out...lol

Run the Penetrator...Ive had them all. The I-Max and the A-99 are way too noisy on the receive end and will cause more TVI. They talk okay but thats it. I just took down my I-Max 2000 when I moved. It was only up maybe a year or so. When I went to unscrew the bottom peice, the SOB cracked on me.I was so discusted that I left the whole thing laying next to the driveway. I just picked up a NOS 1/2 wave Antenna Specialist Model-81 "Magnum 27". It will have to do til I decide what I want to get. I will be putting it up some time this week.
I will never buy another fibreglass antenna again...
