Convenient yes but at a cost, separate circuit in use simultaneously mean more parts/steps in manufacturing process.

Bird meters have several functions but you have to access them manually but people still love them so they still sell and hold resell value.

If it does the same thing for less money I would live with the minor inconvenience of pressing a couple buttons.
