I suddenly saw a a +20 signal @ 15.230MHz, just a carrier, nothing else, a few seconds later I heard tones. they continued for a few minutes, then the music started, then they started talking... Interesting way to broadcast. The time was just before 6am Central
 

It is a hold over from the days before digital tuners, these signals before the broadcast would let the listener know that there radio was tuned to the correct frequency.Back in the early 90's I received a QSL card from a HF pirate radio station, WLIS (We Love Interval Signals), whose programming was all interval signals from various shortwave stations.
