I just left a full size Tarheel 100 screwdriver antenna in the 605 freeway in L.A. ....broke right out of my mount <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/mad.gif ALT=">:"> Take Doc's advice and over-design your mounting system for these suckers.
I'll bet it feels like when my kid drove off in my Ford F250 4X4, with a coax that some how got around the rear bumper, drove off into the sun set with about a dozen antennas............
It took me a year to get over that one, and we ain't putting that picture on the web site, hehehehehehehe
Yeah, $350 right down the drain. That antenna was over 11' tall with the 6' whip on it. I had it mounted about 4.5" up on the spare tire carrier of the Jeep. Oh well....I'll go back to looking at their web page and dreaming of the time when I had a really good working antenna on my '706.....
Yeah, that way of mounting works great...........except I can't make it work on my Jeep. I have a custom hitch/bumper thingy for off-roading. The rear spare tire sticks out above the hitch so you can't mount an antenna in there (unless you don't want to carry a spare). I tell you what...Jeeps are a real challenge sometimes coming up with inventive ways to mount anennas, radio, and amps......
