Does anyone know what one would have to do to put a sd1446 in an 11meter. I've heard of a tech who is doing this but he is charging $150, can it be done, is it a scam and just a stinger board. He says he can put in any size transistor I want but the cost is different according to sup/demand. Something like $200 for a single 2879. I would like to experiment with a 29ltd. Already did the IRF520 mod wasnt happy with audio.

It could be done but the final in the 29 would have to drive the sd1446 and you need a good supply from the power source other than the normal B+ rails. Probably a tap on the positive lead at the DC input....
But is it worth it, better to buy an external amp....

Already have sevral good radios. The best rig I have is a cobra25 nw, 1969 final, mod kit, 2w deadkey swinging 18-20w, driving a 667v. I refuse to pay over $100 for a radio loaded with features I dont use. But I like to experiment with used $40 radios. So the answer to my question is the guy is having to add at least a small board of some type, just to mount the trans on. I will have to find some one that had this done and ask if I can take a peek.

Just trying to keep people from getting ripped off. I guess it can be done but not without a lot of modifications to the chassis. I will try and let people know that this will ruin a good radio.

Yes, for most guys, the way to go is just get a small amp.
A 29 and a TS 250/350 make a great mobile set up that is almost plug and play for the average user.
But there are guys out here that like to play radio, and winter is here
We got some snow last night and it is in the 30`s
So there will be time inside and a golden opportunity to fire up the soldering Iron, dig a bunch of spare parts out of that mess of stuff you keep because you "might use it some day" and play.

I got a old 29 on the shelf, that poor radio has had more garbage mounted in it than a landfill, and pulled back out of it.
Something about a 30 watt iron, a couple of good old incandescent light bulbs, and a few tubes idling in the background to make a cold night seem a little warmer ;)

If you do go forward with the project, please keep us updated, if you want you can post pictures as you go forward and see if any of the guys that do play radio here can offer suggestions or comments.
Have fun above all.
