Got one on the way,Wondering how good it works.

A cheap station monitor is just what I thought. Also wondering how it would work to find frequencys in use, The guy on the Ht or antenna tower at the county building etc. MFJ has a fancy one but it is over 100.00 I will see how it works for the price.

got it in the mail yesterday looks a little nicer when you get it. The antenna is off to the right more ,not in the center and the screen is bright and back lit. Set it on the bench with a new 9volt and key up the handheld and the numbers change and then show frequency. Put it next to the galaxy and key up and nothing, Next to the Meter,Nothing. starts to read if I touch the antenna to the coax conector. Neex to have time to play with it a little more.

The VHF/UHF signal has more "energy" than the 27 MHz signal does. that is why it tends to pick it up easier than the RF from the Galaxy.

maybe the counter can read harmonix

It's all about power density and the higher the frequency the greater the power density for an equal amount of RF output. It's the same reason running 1.5 Kw on HF is no big deal yet the typical microwave oven runs 1.2 Kw at 2.45 GHz and we know what happens there.

All that is true but it has more to do with the counter being in the HTs rf field .
The 27mhz set has an external ant.Unless you want to stand outside next to your antenna you will have to have some sort of rf pickup to make it read. Try a couple of turns of wire around the coax connected to the counters antenna.Or you could put a loop of wire inside your swr meter to act as a pick up.
