Forgive me if this sounds like a silly question...but I'm new to building antennas. I recently picked up a brand new balun, still in the wrapper.

All I did was take it out of the wrapper. I didn't turn any of the hooks as the instructions said not to.

I noticed that when you run a multimeter across the center lead and the threaded ground portion of the SO239, there is continuity....between the center lead and the threads..

Not only that but there's continuity across the two leads you hook the wires to on both sides....as well as the top hook that you use to hang the balun....you can ohm out any of these hooks against each other and you get continuity....you can also ohm out any of these hooks to either side of the SO-239 and you have continuity.

As a result I have been hesitant to hook this up to my radio for I don't want the finals to fry if there's a short circuit. I was going to call the store back and ask them why this was but I either keep forgetting or in the case of tonight, I was forced to work late.

So now my mind is wondering if this brand new balun I have is somehow shorted? Or ????
