tooshay Bob ! microphones and impedence are interesting. I have no love for the Salutes compared to a D-104 . Although that doesn't mean that Salute's won't sound good on some radios. I don't even care for the D-104s that much anymore.
I say some radios. IM a CB'er to begin with , so my spectrum of operations is what it is , and I also like AM and SSB. Many mic's sound good on some and others they can sound like shit.
How was the radio tuned ? was it tuned ? was it clipped ? lots of variables
Over the years , I've come to dislike most power mic's period, depending on tuning of the radios , a good stock mic will more then enough get the jobs done. (It's ones preferance)
My all time personal favorite mic is the Shure 5-26T , sounded just right with the highs and lows on AM and just right on SSB as far as my ear holes were concerned. The best mic I've ever heard to this day on a older 148 GTL hands down. (although the 5-26T would and could sound like shit on other radios)
It's kind of funny how things have changed with me over the years , a good 600 ohm stock mic will have telephone quality sound on both AM and SSB , I suppose there was a time that I needed to be balls to the walls , knock you out of your seat loud .........those times have come and gone for me. It's just not needed for everyday talking.
Again , I go back to the variables that any radio can offer depending on how it has been tuned. Not all stock mic's are created equal , some cb radios I recall came with stock mic's that weren't worth a plug nickle !!:headbang so it was best to get something else.
