Skipshooter fiberglass cb antennas

I ran the 7' Skipshooter. Worked great. I did a "hillbilly" comparison test with a stainless 102'' whip and the Skipshooter performed just as well, and had a little less static noise at stop lights, than the whip.

The adjustable stinger at the top is nice and it tuned well on my MFJ 259B antenna analyser.

The only thing, I think their power ratings are way exacturated. The 7' is rated at 5K. I don't believe the 18 ga. wire wound arond the fiberglass shaft will handle that.

skipshooter 7'

I used to run the Skipshooter 7 foot antenna. I worked transatlantic skip using a little Magnum 257 and the skipshooter.

It is a strong antenna, and the metal tip is nice when you drag it through the bank drive-through. I never ran any power through it. I had a hard time finding one, my nephew drove to a little town to pick up a used one for me.

RF Whiz may have them nowadays...

Does anyone run these and what are your thoughts?
I have 2. A 4.5 footer and a 7 footer. I run the 4.5 on
top of the cab of my pickup with a Tram triple mag mount and it does a very good job. I did however, change the coax, took out the original and installed LMR-240 into the Tram mag mount.
The 7 footer I run on top of my heavy duty spring where I usually have my 102 SS Whip mounted. I change occasionally, just because I like to. I have fun checking out different antennas and mounting locations.

I also ran a 7' back in the 80's and it tuned flat and worked good. I also agree on their power ratings, waaaaay over exaggerated. I ran 1.6kw (8 pill) out of mine no problem but i honestly wouldnt go any higher than that. After all these years i bet the ones now are not as good as the old ones were.
