SOLAR PANELS

Hello this is my first post, my question is I am thinking of installing "Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels, I would like to know would they cause any interference to my radio. I operate HF, 2Mts and 70 Cms.
Thanks Kevin 73s
Yep some certainly do .Many Aussie hams have been put off air all together during daylight hours. on HF...2m and 70 cm should not be a problem. The cells are not a problem its the inverters that cause interference. Check with your supplier and get a written guaranty that they wont cause interference ( if you can).

The panels themselves don't, its the inverters that do. I have a couple of installs within a couple of hundred yards and get no problem from them.

I'd agree that the inverters that are the real problem with so much RFI from solar pnael systems. Just beware of that fact, and question/see if the sellers of those systems are trying to loball the price/bid for the job by using cheap inverters. Have a local friend/radio operator that had nothing but problems and many horror stories dealing with the noise from cheap invertiers.
Pivotal.

Most of the cheaper modified sine wave inverters will cause RFI. Using the more expensive pure sine wave inverters will solve a lot of issues. Not all necessarily but a lot.
