Besides the obvious pll out of lock decimal do you see what I do?
I've seen just about every FS 2340 eBay sale/auction in the 4 years I've been following them, but I've never seen this before. Out of the five I once owned and about 20 I've seen in person this is a first. I knew what sonar's reason was for doing what they did, but once again this is a first.

It's a 3023 (23 channel) that has 40 channels. Maybe they forgot the 2340 sticker when they did the conversion?
Sonar recycled the fs 3023's case/chassis. When they went from the 3023 to the fs 2340 they used what they had on hand. And that was their latest 23 Channel transceiver (fs 3023.) 808. If you were to remove the sticker on your sonar you would see exactly what's scene on the photo I added. Underneath the 2340 sticker is a screen printing denoting that it's a recycled ds 3023. The odd thing about it is that it doesn't look like someone peeled the sticker off. I don't know why someone would do that, and if they were to do I always assuming it would have had to been done while the radio was basically new. I always assumed peeling the fs 2340 sticker off would easily remove or effect the fs 3023 screen printing. The glue on those FS 2340 stickers is extremely strong. I've never even seen one begin to peel off. I always assumed removing the fs23 sticker wood effect the screen-printed fs 3023 beneath it, but this one looks unaffected. It looks to me like sonar may have let this one get out there without slapping the fs 2340 sticker on it. The final versions of the fs 2340 do not have the sticker, and the fs 2340 is actually screen printed on the face. That's the one that I kept. From what I gathered over the years FS 2340's that are screen printed wer the last of the batches of the 40 channel FS 2340 to be produced, and sold. They finally ran out of cases that were already screen printed with the fs 3023, and begin screen printing FS 2340 directly onto the face. PS. Didn't forget about you 808. I have a better idea as to how I can get those items to you. I don't remember if I have your phone number, but if I don't I will message you with my plan. I think that you're probably going to go along with it. It's just too much stuff to box up. Especially considering I have yet to get out a couple of things I need to have repaired for myself. talk to you soon my brother. Once again I did not forget about you. 73 s PS. OMG! I just read your reply again. You hit the nail on the head. As I explained above I believe that's what happened. I could have saved a lot of writing had I paid attention to what I was reading. Sorry about that brother. I am losing my mind. LOL ttys

maybe someone was restoring it and that was the only new face plate sticker they could find...
I don't think that's what happened here. The fs 3023 begin with a three position up and down switch in the right-hand corner. I don't recall what the switch did, but it may have been the anl and two other positions. Apparently that design was problematic. So what sonar did with the fs 3023 was delete the switch, and place a metal plate that perfectly matched in faceplate color, but it was just bolted or glued over the three position switch, and really didn't look good. it actually was not flush with the faceplate, and sticks out maybe about an eighth of an inch. I have several of the fs 3023s, but haven't looked at them in years so I actually forget what that three position switch is, but they quickly realized that design wasn't working properly, and the deleted it. Replacing it with a matching plate of metal. I have that I revision of the fs 3023 also. That is not a f s 3023 sticker. There were no FS 3023 stickers. The
Fs3023's we're all screen printed.

I have a SONAR FS-23 & it has a metal plate over that area where the switch was. I can't remember what the switch was either but it seems as if it says,(Lower)Call,(Middle)Normal,& (Upper)Standby.

My bad six shooter. You are correct. It is the fs23 that has the plate where the ANL switch is on the 2340, and 3023. So the other members thought that the fs 3023 faceplate was used in order to restore this 2340 is definitely a possibility, and on point. I actually think that's the most likely of scenarios. The fs 3023's screen print is just to clean for it to have had a fs 2340 sticker removed from it. Those FS 2340 stickers ar stuck on there with some type of industrial glue. I'm not 100% positive, but I think those stickers are made of tin. As I mentioned in my other reply I've never seen one peeling off. Nevertheless purposely pulled off. Had someone removed the fs 2340 sticker I am fairly positive it would have removed or damaged the 3023 screen printing. I own a few of each of the fs 23, and 3023, but haven't looked at them in so long that I got confused on which one had the plate. The last time I looked at the fs23 was when I wanted to replace the relay in the 2340. The relay in the 2340 was a replacement, and popped so loud when the mic was keyed that it begin to annoy me. The original relays as most who have used or heard any of the three big sonars make a loud snapping sound when they're activated. That sound from the relay kicking in actually feeds its way through the speaker. The one I removed out of the fs23 was actually a lot lower in decible level compared to the replacement one I put in the 2340. Once again good looking out. 73's
