A neighbor gave me several things that her now deceased brother left. He was a CBer but I said I would take a look at them anyhow. On of the things that interested me was a power amplifier. It says: "Illegal for 11 meters" and has 40 20 15 but no selection dial. I have checked the topside and it does not seem to be modified but I know I need to check to bottom next. It has 4 6JG6A tubes and 4 6JE6C/6LQ6 tubes. I cannot find any information about a "SOS Electronics Scout" on the internet.

  1. Does anyone have information about this amplifier?
  2. What do you think the output power would be assuming that it work? The power does come on at the tubes do light up.
  3. When I look at the bottom, what should I be looking for to make sure it has not been modified to cover the 11 meter band?

Thank you so much.

is it grey with a kinda "snowflake" paint job?

similar to this?

4 watts drive should get about 300 out

There is also a few threads on this forum if you search , I didn't review them so I don't know if there is any info you can use some are on the Super scout which I believe is 4 driving 8 .<gotproof>

Probably made in the 70's in someones garage when everyone was building amps around the cheap (then) 6LQ6/6JE6C for CB'ers. It' probably lacks any filtering so you probably don't want to use it on the ham bands. I do think "SOS" is an appropriate name for it though!

It is an 11 meter amp, seems the crowd that uses those type of amps are paying good money at the auction sites.

Scout

I have a SOS Scout mine does about 600watts output pep will have to get it off shelf to find out how much AVG it will do. This is a Cb amp and will splash channels for sure if you over modulate. Have not used mine much on sideband. These amps are in demand for decent money if in good shape.
