I just worked ZS6CCY in South Africa on 80m with only 100 watts. The antenna is an inverted L with 33 feet verticle and 72 feet horizontal and NO RADIALS!The antenna impedance is around 230 ohms at that freq so I installed a 4:1 transformer to help the feedline match up.Since the feedpoint is a much higher impedance the antenna is not quite so prone to ground losses and radials become less important.(still somewhat important)It will work better after I install some but now I'm not in quite so much of a hurry after getting a 4 by 8 and a 5 by 9 from him.The sun was already well up on his end and propagation was starting to drop out but we held it for about 5 minutes before I cut him loose to work a few more.
