ive got the cobra 29 NW ST WX in a jeep. when i key up the mic i get a squeeling noise though my subs in the back. the antenna is mounted on the driverside tail light. the cb is located on the top of the dash and the coax cable runs down the dash and down the side of the body. its next to the wires for the subs and the defroster. it never used to squeel but now it does. should i switch the coax to the other side of the body or is something else wrong?

I would. Move it back and see what happens. Chances are, that you may just want to turn off the sound system when talking on the radio.

You gotta remember that the frequency response of transmitted audio is only a narrow 300-3000Hz max. All of that great sound coming out of your system isn't going to be useful in your transmitted sound; only a thin slice of it can be understood at the other end. In fact, it will interfere with your speech by overwhelming the mic if it is louder than your own voice next to the mic. You're talking with crossed purposes and neither is benefitting as it is right now. Don't try to attempting the grounding of your speaker wires, as they are different from ground and will short out and pop your amps. Using a ferrite bobbin on the power wires (in order to choke out loose RF signals) that feed your audio system will probably help - but is hard to guage how much from here. If it worked the original way - go with it!

If it didn't used to do that then something must have changed. First thought would be something may be loose, not tightened all the way. Or what have you done differently lately?
Wouldn't hurt to move things around and see if it stops. If the radio is near the sound equipment, I'd look at that as much as the feed line. Lots of possible things can cause a squeal, no idea about where to say to start looking, other than anything new or different.
Good luck.

Sounds like something is looking for a ground. I'll bet the antenna system has changed in some way. Check the SWR and make sure it is still low. Just guessing but judging from your handle, do you do a lot of mud riding? Mud can do strange things to antennas especially if you have spring on it. Try removing the spring (if there is one) and then see if it still squeals. The quality of springs these days has went downhill big time.
