Im looking for a good free tone generator program for allignment and tuning of SSB rigs. Also what is the best tone or tones to use 500Hz and or??

For two tone alignments and power measurements they usually use 400 Hz and 1800 Hz IIRC. Just do not use two tones that are harmonically related.

If you have a smart-phone, there's an App for that! I'm using an Android and there are a few FREE signal generator apps that allow you to do this.

Interesting . . . why is that?

The harmonics of the lower tone will add to or subtract from the amplitude of the higher tone depending on phase. This will screw up your amplitude adjustments.

I used to "tune" my guitars by the harmonics. Pluck 2 strings and listen for the pulses to even out. To poor to own a tuner back then.
