Has anyone ever linked their station to another one close by. If done right with same antennas, same power output, same antenna elevation would theoretically gain 6db. Definitely not legal but an interesting idea.

It would have to be really 'close by' for any benefit. Otherwise, it would not result in much except interference. That 6dB gain is a -very- optimistic figure using two antennas to the same radio, much less separate radios.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean by "linking"

is it two separate Xmitters and antennas at different locations sending the same transmitted signal at the same time?

if so, what is not legal about that?

Not sure exactly what you mean but in any event it would only yield 3 dB gain since doubling your ERP is a gain of 3 dB. Do you mean synchronizing two stations such that the audio is fed to each and transmitted on the exact same frequency? If so that requires a LOT more than simply hooking things up. Terrestrial synchronous FM broadcasting has done that with various transmitters operating on the same frequency but everything has to be GPS locked for timing and proper phasing as well as EXACT same frequency.

It would be illegal due to the frequency in which the linking would take place on. I should have pointed out in the first post that their are some semi local stations trying to accomplish this on the cb band. They intend on using a frequency on a 800 mhz business band radio.

Yes keeping the signals in phase has been a primary issue from what I have been told. Also since high levels of rf are involved they had to increase the transmit frequency for the link to 800 mhz to get rid of feedback that was getting back into the receiver.

Not a bad idea but not worth the possible trouble with the fcc.

Twice the antenna 3db twice the power another 3db so 6db total I would think.

Some of their local operators have spoken about buying jammers which are totally 100 percent illegal. Im definitely steering clear of this whole mess.

Yup, those calculations are correct. Just doubling the antennas would add 3db and if that second antenna were fed with an equal but separate power source, that's another 3db. Whoever came up with that was brilliant! On the other hand, whoever came up with the idea to use the public safety band in the process was a complete dumbass. Hard to believe the same person would come up with this.

If its not on 800 or 900 then it will be easy for them to crack. Should be interesting.

Its sad that they would need to resort to this. To cheat is admitting defeat.

And if its not enough then what.

I just hope all the parties know how serious transmitting out of band is without the proper licence.

Hopefully the fcc doesn't come to ct.

What was easy was showing how quickly you failed a simple test to see if you could be trusted with anything at all. You're so hung up on "teaching the teacher a lesson" you took the bait hook line and sinker as soon as I made you think you would be at a 6db disadvantage. Stop stalking me online and thinking everything I purchase on eBay has anything to do with your obsession. You snuck back into this forum after being banned for years for no other reason than to stir the pot as you pretend to have a desire to "steer clear" of controversy.
