Ok. I've been using my sonar fs23 with a silver eagle d104. 50% of the people say the audio is Crystal clear. The people who say I sound good actually say thay can tell it is tube audio as it's loud clear and very soft, like an am broadcast station. The others say thay can hardly understand a word i say as thay describe the audio to be very muffled and my words are all blending together. The people who hear me with 100% clarity say thay are baffled and can't understand how the excellent audio there hearing can be described totally opposite from what there hearing. So far it's about 50/50. This is something the people reciving my audio great and the others who can't understand a word I'm saying are stumped and have never come across this. Im using an a99 with LMR times 400 (usa made) and a Palomar 500 with the12 volt power supply combination. Has anyone ever hear of this problem before? i'm also stumped. How can four people on one channel be split into two who can't make out a eord of what I'm saying and the other two who say i sound excellent? P.s. I changed over from the d104 to a turner +2 and thr reports were the same. This happened two different nights on different channels with two separate groups of people WTF can this be. HELP!!!!!!

i would say in my opinion it is their radios,,, some exports pick up wide in recieve and will think it sounds good but others might have recieve off some where peak and tune has been done,,,then of course if it is like around here some folks dont know how to use clarifier/delta tune and it is off center so they keep saying you are muffled or not coming in clear.... but try as i may they still dont understand how to use it..........much like a few i have come across thru the years that have a radio that the clarifier has been strapped or whatever they call it these days and will have it half channel off and nomatter what you do cant get them to understand they are off freq..........just a thought 73s midnight special

Could also be some are pulling your leg. A few locals around here will tell someone they sound bad even though they don't. And. Just the opposite happens. A person will sound tight and everyone will say he sounds good. Untill I say something. Any way one of the locals can record you and then play back like a local watergate? That would give you an honest answer. What is the amp DK/ carrier and what is it swinging to?

I agree with crusher I had a Local tell me my audio was lousy an chased my tail for nothing it was on his end I recorded my audio an it was fine jealous op's say crazy things either find a way to listen or record it the proof is in the pudding ! lol Ps Many other contacts had told me the best sounding radio they heard an DON'T touch a thing .

I've never had 50% of my contacts tell me my audio was awful on any radio unless there was a problem with the radio. Might be a component in the Palomar or the Sonar (tube?) going bad and the audio issue is intermittent. Do what W9cll said and find a way to monitor your transmit audio. Maybe another CB without being connected to an antenna with headphones.

the problem may be on there end even though it still doesn't make sense. Im not a ssb operator and know little about ssb. If the clarifier is opened does that affect the receiver on am? Im gonna open up another sonar that's been packed away as long as the fs23 I seem to be having problems with. If the people who are having trouble understanding my audio still have a problem understanding me on a different sonar, then thay definitely have recive problems. And if thay all hesr me well maybe there is a problem with the performance of the fs23. That still doesn't explain how some people hear excellent audio and others hear garbage. Im still baffled. Thanks to those who weighed in. I hope captain kilowatt and audio shockwaves weight in. This maybe one for the books.

yes if the clarifier is opened it works on am and ssb,,, when opened it means it is able to actually move in frequency up or down from center freq....... example is my cobra 148,,, the clarifier has been fixed to go up half channel and down a full channel,,, if it is not on the center mark some ops on am come in muffled or just sound bad....
