For comparison sake a Super Typhoon is the Atlantic equivalent of a categoty 4 hurricane. Nasty stuff. Hope you and your family can evacuate or have access to a hurricane shelter. I'm sure a lot of the less hefty architecture over there will not last long in this category storm.

That comparison is a little misleading actually. A typhoon classified as a Super Typhoon is indeed equal to a strong cat 4 hurricane but only just barely on the low end. IOW a strong cat 4 is barely a Super Typhoon. A cat 4 is 130–156 mph, 209–251 km/h while a cat 5 is >157 mph, >252 km/h. Looking at the weather chart above shows Super typhoon Ruby is packing winds of 270 km/h, or 168 mph and gusting to 320 km/h, 199 mph.

Sounds like it's time to tie yourself to a mountain and hang on. Wishing all the best. The Philippines has had it's share of typhoons in the last year or two.

People have started to think about building storm cellars but these supertyphoons often bring flash floods and storm surges so while a storm cellar or a bunker might protect from wind, the danger of drowning also becomes a larger factor.

I was in capas, tarlac in September when there was just a tropical storm hit Luzon.

Manila was flooding and it looked severe.

The super typhoon will devastate the area.
