Swan 700cx

From the ad: "SWAN 700CX SSB CW AM TRANSCEIVER delivers 750 Watts PEP Input on 80-10 Meters built in 1970."

Read that again............... OK now read it once more............... It does not say it make over 700 watts output. It says 750 watts INPUT. That means the final plate voltage times the plate current works out to 750 watts DC input which translates to about 300 watts pep output. Back then because of regulations regarding the measurement of transmitting power radios and amps were rated for DC input to the final and not in output.Almost nobody was capable of measuring pep power but everybody could measure DC power input to the finals. My Kenwood TS-820S is rated for 250 watts INPUT which is 100 watts OUTPUT.

Sorry I misread the ad :banghead:

You are not alone. A great deal of people do the same thing especially those not involved in radio back when the ratings stated DC input power. They just overlook that part and ASS-U-ME it is power output.

Ha ! No ass-u-me here !!!! Just didn't read the whole article:screwy:

Good old radios..as long as you dont mind the drifting !! they were built like a tank

Work horses for sure.

I installed a VFO stabilizer in mine, after a 5 minute warm up it stays solid on frequency, no drift.

Use an N3ZI freq counter so have the digital read out.

I definitely enjoy using the old tuber every now and then.

What frequency is the SWAN NET on?
Answer: Doesn't matter, just pick a spot and they'll DRIFT by:thumbup:

Actually they can be descent rigs. I have restored several 500's/700's
Have a 700S on the self now waiting for me to get aroundtoit:thumbup:

Never had any of those that could not be tamed...much better than some NEW Galaxy or RCI rigs I have run across the bench:headbang
I worked WavRider on his it was dead on...
All the Best
BJ
