SWR question

When checking the SWR of my antenna and there is an linear amp in the setup, should the meter be run off of the coax directly to the antenna or the one going from the amp to the radio with the antenna still going to the amp? My understanding is the swr is the resistance from the coax and antenna, so does more coax equal more resistance? because of the setup in my truck and placement of the amp I have 18' coax running from the antenna to the amp, and another 18' running amp to radio.

Turn off the amp to check the coax and put the meter wherever it's convenient for you to check. If you really want play it safe, disconnect the coax to the amp and place the meter in it's place for the check (so you don't need extra coax jumpers), taking the amp completely out of the picture.
