SWR readings

Ok I'm still wet behind the ears but what's up with the SWR readings. Most of the time they read around .5 sometimes lower. On occation they will get up to about 1.0. Why the change? Is it atmospheric conditions? I can happen in a short period of time but while drivein it can change. Has it to do with location. If this is the case how do you know you have you antenna tuned it's best?

What's up with that?? ;-}

thumbs1, I don't know what kind of antenna you run, but as you drive down the road and increases in speed your antenna will bend, this will change the impedance characteristics of the antenna. Therefore your SWR readings will change also. Being parked under power lines, next to a building, or next to a fence, can case reflection. Something I have learned that might help you, get it all set up like you want and just talk on it, don't worry about it anymore. Hope this helps.

Everything around your antenna for a fair distance can and will affect

your SWR to a certain extent. Driving down the road, cars near you,

buildings, trees, etc, all will cause the SWR reading to change. If you

have a good SWR reading when sitting still in the middle of no where,

then don't worry about it changing unless it changes by huge amounts

for no apparent reason.
