Talk about high ebay prices

There have been many threads about some of the extreme prices on ebay. Well this is my contribution:

Vintage President Madison 40 channel am/SSB transceiver with MIc & Speakers | eBay

I know these radios typically sell between $150 and $200 for good ones. I think the added buttons boost the apeal of the radio. I think the owner should consider bedazzling the radio as well. It would compliment the buttons. A bedazzler job should up the value, at least, another $100 or so.

I agree. Something mint in the box might fetch 250-300. To buy that one as is un-tested with those retarded reflectors stuck on there I would be at 50-100 bucks.

He also gave the option to 'Make an offer'.

In which case, offering him $300 would be fair, since he is eating the shipping cost. Having two speakers for it and a Turner+3 mic is a great setup for this radio too. Come to think of it, offer him $325 for it and tell him that he can keep the reflectors - lol . . .

iv'e seen those speakers go for $50 + each all by them selves and a good working/looking +3 is worth more than $50 too . the reflectors do look stupid , but they can be removed . the seller has a %99.9 rating on almost 1500 sales and says " This is a Vintage President Madison 40 channel am/SSB Transceiver with MIc & Speakers still works fine. ....... " . seems like a fair deal , but not a great one .

like rob said .... make a lower offer ......

Seller said he didn't know who put the buttons on it...I got to thinking maybe the original owner was Bulldog 777 in Maine, but then I remembered Bulldog uses "Stars"....

The bedazzler and buttons was more of a humor. Geesh, you guys are too serious, I just like ragging on ebay prices. I just saw an old china made Cobra 29 with echo for $240. I am frustrated because I want a Madison with a digital clock.

But the speakers are supposed to come with the radio. Having them doesn't increase the value, not having them decreases it. That is like selling my car for $750 over book because the tires are worth $200 a piece, and they come with it. But the depressiated value of the radio minus the speakers is less than the cost of the speakers themselves. Which is why most people separate the radio from the speakers and sell them separately. Instead of selling the radio and speakers for $200, they sell the radio for $150, and both speakers for $50 each. Instead of $200 for the package, they make $250 selling everything individually. Its the same with anything. I have a snowmobile thats in rough shape. I could sell the engine for the same price as the book price of the sled. More times than not, something is worth more in pieces than a whole.

I agree that the mic is a good one and gives a little price boost. But this untested radio is a $150 rig at best + mic. But the buttons tell me that someone may have let their children use it as a play toy. Its a gamble.

Seem kinds of interesting that someone would decorate their radio with red white and blue stars when the radio was made in an asian sweatshop.

Classic and vintage in the same ad? That's gonna cost you an extra $300.
