just curious.......

on a rci 2950 or a magnum 257 will the talk back feature of the 2018 xtreme mic work on these radios ?
if not can talkback be added to them so you could adjust the echo/sound effects to your own liking instead of relying on others ?
i know they dont use the cobra/uniden 4 pin mic plug

no.

yes, but why not just use a receiver to make the adjustments?

to be able to make changes on the fly (so to speak) to use the toys/sound effects and be able to hear them and then go back to the original settings . i know to some , folks using noise toys are the worst part of the hobby but i can see where they could be fun.........sometimes .
is talk back on them as simple as the spkr/pa trick on unidens and cobras ? if not how is it done ?

thanks for the quick reply jack .

It can not be done via the jacks - mag 257 can not have talkback, only way would be to add a talkback circuit.

2950DX involves removing a resistor - visit the rangerusa.com website for details

thanks CBRM . im looking forward to your review of the 2950dx that you have comming up .
are you going to cover removing the resistor for talkback in your article ?

Talkback can be added to these radios - but in most cases it just isn't worth it. Unless you run echo there shouldn't be a need for talkback. Both of these radios are better for SSB anyway where you don't really need talkback.

If you are looking to have big AM sound and want to run echo or need to hear your audio I'd suggest just buying a radio more suited to that kind of talking - perhaps a Galaxy or Magnum that already has talkback from the factory.

If you'd rather not modify your mint 257 or 2950 you can always just buy a $5.00 cb handheld at a garage sale and use it as a talkback monitor. Cheaper and you don't have to mess with the insides of the radios.
