And, no, not across the dang Niagara River... heheheh.

From Sunny Salem VA to Quebec on 28.479 in the 10m phone band.

This was on about 10 watts PEP, no gain vertical antenna.

So, in conclusion, things are steadily getting better...

You may well be pleasantly surprised ..
I have Never used a amp/linear..
Yet have spoken nearly all over the world..

It is Antenna...Location...Timing and diligence
rarely will an amp make the deciding factor in getting a contact..

About the only place i have yet gotten hold of is Antarctica.
Both Hawaii and Alaska are rare and hard to get
( due to far fewer ops and the remoteness of them)
However i have gotten Hawaii and Alaska more then a few times..

Have gotten all over south america....All over africa...All over europe .. all over the asia's..

Both Australia and New Zealand hard rare ones as well
( but it is done from time to time)

Most important .. is simply have fun and not cause RF Interference with your neighbors ( very easy to do when not using an amp )

Oh I am definately going barefoot. I originally got the amp when I was running a home brew vertical conduit dipole, so that I could get more distance. But now with the beam and antenna tuner, it isn't really necessary.
With the amp, (100w or less) I can talk to just about anyone that I can hear. I've been getting out to S. America and the West Indies, all of the Southern states, West to Ill., Mi., In,. Oh., not much North at all, or East across the pond either. But I will be persistant though. Oh yes, I should mention that I'm limited to 23 channels AM and SSB. It seems to me that Nova Scotia and Canada should be no problem, seeing as I'm in NH, but I don't even seem to receive anything out of the North. Probably due to the extra loud maul droppers south of me burying everything.:thumbup1:

I hear that..
I do not use a Beam on 11 meters..
Instead...i use Jays Interceptor I-10K 5/8 wave groundplane

However...Most in DX land refuse to believe i am not using a beam

Regardless....Sure works well for me..

IC-7000,SM20 desktop power mike, andrews heliax LDF%-50a coax going to Interceptor I-10K..

When others working 10-20,000 watts in their cars and trucks only 7 miles away...i sqash them like a bug....LOL...

It is the antenna...NOT the amp that gets the job done
