Here is the next radio that I'm trying to sell for the older friend who doesn't do the internet. I didn't know this radio existed until I saw it and conducted more research - thank you Mr. Googler ;-)

I apologize in advance for this lengthy post but I like to provide lots of details …. everything I know - so you will know what you might be getting and don't have to ask to many, if any, questions.

This is a fairly rare Cobra - branded, Superstar 2200 from what I gather. Also sold as a NATO 2000 and Tristar 797 …. possibly others. It's built on the PCMA 001 S board and uses the PLL 02A chip. I think it is a very serviceable rig with some good features. 6 bands of channels with low freq. of 26.065 and tops out at 28.755. All modes including FM & CW with CW jack on rear. No echo or 10kc bump. Very strong receiver that sounds really good - 3 position RF Gain instead of variable and 3 position Power even though it's a Low Power radio. Made in Japan.11481.jpg11482.jpg

The good: Radio basically works well on AM/FM, all LED segments good in the Channel Selector, High Power set at 7 watts - swings to 13. SSB swings to 25 watts. One of those 5 beep programmable (DIP Switch) Roger Beeps has been added and is on the NB Switch. Basic Talkback has been added to the ANL Switch. The front face is very nice looking. Good strong clear receive on SSB. Clarifier is OPEN for TX. Came with a first generation Cobra handheld power mic with their modern looking grill - but still uses the old school little 7 volt battery. No model number showing on the mic.

The bad: The SSB audio is mostly all static and noise with only occasional voice coming through. Don't know what's wrong with that. I did also wire up a non-amplified hand mic and got the same results. / The Coarse ~Fine knobs for the clarifier look similar to the other knobs … but are clearly NOT the factory knobs. The top black matte cover is marred and would need to be sanded down and repainted. There is no mounting bracket.

So that's it. Possible Collectors interest "Cobra 148 GTL DX" clone, basically works. Sideband audio is bad. You get a Cobra power mic & the added Roger Beep Kit inside.

Make an offer. Will go to ebay this Sunday night if no interest here.

Nice radio... too bad the SSB is hosed. Guarantee you it just needs an alignment because some screwdriver expert got in there with their pointy knife and started fooling with the shiny pots.
