I got a new texas star dx 350 hdv and it worked well for a couple months now. I decided I was going to upgrade the power wires to 8 guage and the antenna and transmit coax Jack's to 14 guage. Well I got everything soldered in and feeling proud until I turned the amp on. When I turn the amp on the cb radio gets quiet. I turn the amp off and the radio gets loud. The preamp is no longer working now either. I put the amp on a meter and it's still showing 200 pluswatts peak. Dial a watt is working to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advanc. -shane

welcome to the forum, sounds like the amp is being keyed, when you apply power the relay keys in the amp and you have no receive, turn amp of and the receive on the radio comes back.

Most likely a bad keying relay but first, re check all your soldering make sure no little gremlin balls of solder have run around shorting traces out in the amp.(n)(y)

The keying transitor by the relay went bad. Just replaced transitor by the relay and it's up and running again!
