The past several weeks up here have been unusually hot. Normally we see days in the 80's during the summer but rarely ever in the 90's. That has not been the case this summer. Today it is sitting at 95 in the shade, and that is in a well shaded grassy area under the trees on the edge of a river bank and not just a shaded area of dirt or the like. The humidex puts that 95 at 114. Standing in the sun is like entering an oven. With no breeze at all it's an effort to just breath. It makes me glad we installed the heat pump last fall. The power bill is likely to be high but WTF. At least I don't work up a sweat just blinking. I know some of you get this all the time but we are simply not used to it. All kinds of health warnings on radio and TV today about working in this heat. Glad I am on vacation until next Thursday. The plant must be absolutely unbearable.

All the way into Canada, eh. That's a typical summer day down here where I am. Anytime from May to October. Although the coldest I've ever seen it was about -5 degrees Fahrenheit and that only lasted one night.

I knew some had wx like that usually but as I said we are just not used to it. Sort of like when you southerners come up here in the winter and think the end of the world is coming because it is 15 degrees and there is a foot of snow on the ground. I get a kick out of the Caribbean college students we get here. It can be 30-35 degrees and they are bundled up in several layers with a heavy winter parka and ski hats etc. :D I still take the garbage out in short pants and a tee shirt in that weather. I might slip boots on if there is much snow on the ground.

Ever wonder why 'us' southern people like to go to work, then hit the bars after work? 'Cuz they both got air conditioning!!
Never been to Canada but got close once, in Wisconsin. July... 90 - 105 degree weather at home, dang near froze something off at Oshkosh! Stayed a week, spent the nights camped under/in a plane, used to go to the concession tent after they closed and sit on the grill...

I've had friends in Canada complaining it has been too hot. Did not realize it was THAT hot there. I've almost gotten used to it here in Chicago area.

Southern Ontario has been hit hard this summer and we set new records here in Nova Scotia today. Just got back from Cape Breton Thursday night and it was even stinking hot up there. I thought being right on the coast and higher elevation may help but I was wrong. Spent a full day at Fortress Louisbourg Association : Association de la Forteresse-de-Louisbourg | Cape Breton, Nova Scotiaand got absolutely fried even though it is right on the coast. Had a great day but the after effects were not that great...sun burn....dehydration....trying to sleep in a hot tent trailer etc. Oddly enough the next night was quite cold...down to about 48 degrees at night but back up to near 90 the next day.

I was working here in Southern Ontario when it was hot. Try 12+ hours of biking, hiking then repeat. I was drinking about a quart of water per hour and it still was not enough. I'm feeling pretty spent right now. I get to start it all over again tomorrow as a co-worker had an oops at work and I'm called in for his next 2 shifts. :(

it has been 94 to 103 temp...plus the humidity/heat index for 9 days now...and before that was another heat wave..

an hour ago...almost lost power...was a 5 second brown out
Likely a blown transformer from a lightning strike..

But yes..Thank GOD for AC...lol

We've had an average of 92 degrees F down here in around Charlotte,NC which is about 6-8 degrees F below what it has been. Fortunately we've had overcast skys to keep it totally unbearable. Coupled with high humidity, profuse sweating occurs when doing anything but being still. My concrete truck has air conditioning is is a blessing. Used to have to acclimate for hot weather before A/C as it would get 120+F degrees in the cab of a mixer truck.
I'll be moving soon to the mountains and saying goodby to hot sticky heat. (y)

Be smart,be safe

It has been right at 100 degrees here for the past 3 or 4 weeks heat index of 102 to 108 everyday....needless to say what work I have been doing has been done from as soon as we can read a tape measure till it gets to hot to handle the material we are working with ( I am a commercial and industerial roofer by trade )

Finally am getting a bit of rain and cooler temps ( high today is forcast at about 90 (y) after this long hot dry spell ...We have been needing it...

Severe thunderstorms rolled through the region last night. It is presently a beautiful sun shiny day and 73 degrees with much lower humidity. The overnight low is predicted to be 52 degrees. Life is good again. (y)

Those storms are what ripped through The Ottawa Valley here. Pembroke and Petawawa got hit hard. Humidity finally broke on Friday after they went through. Last 3 days have been the first with little humidity in about 3 almost 4 weeks here.

My AC went out Friday and a new one went in on Monday. Being the hottest part of summer yet I was surprised that it was replaced so fast. That weekend without it was a bear though. I ate out every meal just to have an excuse to go to an air conditioned building... Spent more time "shopping" than I ever have before as well for the same reason.

It's funny how we have become so accustomed to having AC. It is actually making us even MORE dependent on it. AC in the car, AC in the house and AC in the office it's no wonder we bitch about the heat when we step outside going to/from the car. At least I get a break from it while at work. :p No AC there. In fact we generate a LOT of extra heat in the plant that has to be expelled. Imagine as many as six dryers 12 feet wide and a hundred feet long (at least) operating between 350 and 460 degrees and on the other side of the plant nine machines producing as much as three quarter's of a MILLION watts EACH. Yeah it gets hot at time. I love my home AC. (y)
