Ok a Ranger 2950DX is NOT a CB radio EVEN though mary use them as such.

Now as a HAM I have run the 2950, 2950DX and the 5054DX and they are good radios if you are NOT a licensed HAM keep it on the CB channels and you should be ok ... as a rule the FCC dosn't bother people until they wind up on the HAM bands ( 24.890-24990 or 28.000-29.700 )

Also remember SSB/AM are LEGAL to talk on CB with and FM is not but you can lissen to it all you want .... you will find the HAMS on 29.600 mhz.

Thats the story .....

This was my 5054 DX the last ranger I had.

i havn't used http://www.cbradiosplus.com/shop/pc/viewprd.asp?idcategory=0&idproduct=439 but i don't recall reading anything bad about them either .
you can get it at copper for about $250 , but if you dont pay them to convert it they will keep the E-chip from what i understand ... and their techs don't often get complimented .... outside of the copper forum .

id suggest Dave at DTB . i asked him about the 2950dx last month and he said the $300 includes conversion and alignment .

Afternoon Booty ....

I think your right that some 2950dx's need some kind of DONGLE ( E-Chip )
But since I don't run on CB I never had a need for one.

They are too big for my car and don't have toneboards for repeaters ... bummer .... THAT'S why i got rid of mine.

Hello,

I bought a RCI-2995 from CBRadio Plus about two years ago.

I called the girl that handles warranty returns for Ranger and asked her who had the best reputation as a reseller. I was told CB Radio Plus, so I ordered it from them.

Well, I had them do the tune...When I hooked it up to my meter and dummy load it showed 4 S Units of hash on SSB. I didn't go any further as I knew I was shit on again.

I called CBRadio Plus, told them it was not properly tuned. The girl was very nice, apologized and emailed me a UPS shipping label to have it sent to the warranty repair for Ranger near Chicago. They had it a few days and when I got it back it was the bees knees.

They called me after it was returned and apologized once again and told me they would send me a free desk mic of my choice for my trouble. I told them it wasn't necessary, but she insisted, so I got a new Astatic 878.

Although, I got a crappy tune, they did more than make up for it.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it... Copper, Sparky Plug, Radio Hacker and all you other turds that rip people off with the famous "TUNE" jobs and shitty customer service.

At least they made it up to me with a real nice reach-a-round.

Yea I would order it from a place that does good in house tech work, not refer you to a service center. You know the drill Undertaker you have been around long enough. DTB, Sparkys, Custom CB Radio, Bob's CB probably afew more decent shops out there but there are 4 right off the top of my head.

You have to take into account the 2950 is an excellent SSB radio but not one of the louder AM radios. If AM is a prioity, look for something else.

Isn't CB Radios Plus a partner company of Radioactive radios?

Dave at DTB gets my vote there are none better and his service is second to none, week or so turn around time just is the BEST. Try that at R&R, send it now you might get it back in March
