I like the way the ones at QRZ are but for a change of "scenery",try different sites like www.eham.net/exams/ etc. Same questions, just laid out in another way. Amateur radio....GO FOR IT ! It opens a whole new "world" of radio. Some like it, some love it, some hate it but you will never know until you try it. There is Soooooo much more to do in amatuer radio. You can have a blast rag chewing on the repeaters, talking to friends or making new contacts all over the world via Echolink,Contest/rag chews/nets or work DX , packet, PSK31, SSTV, the new digital voice, getting involved with emergency operations and nets,Microwave,Satellites, EME(Earth-Moon-Earth) & even ESE. Yep guys have figured out how to bounce their signal off the sun! You can talk all over the world just using a piece of wire for an antenna or learn to make your own beams etc. ( I made a 8 element UHF Quagi for less than $15.00 )Meeting new folks and making new friends at club meetings and events like field day etc. This is just to name a few. There is something for everyone.

I'm not sure what "new study" material there will be. Electronics, saftey and operating practices/band plans haven't changed in years(except the addition of 60M). Maybe there is a section on how to set up Echolink on your computer?

Hee hee,

Mike, that reminded me of the first time I talked to someone on echo link. It was totally new to me and scared the tar out of me when someone connected to me. All during the conversation I ID'd like I was on the air. Later on after I listened awhile I felt stupid and I wondered what that stranger thought of the dude he had talked to (me).

Quote:
All during the conversation I ID'd like I was on the air.

Well not a bad idea really unless you know for sure it's computer to computer. Sometimes someone may be on via a repeater and hit the "random access" code and get connected to you then you will be on the air. If I do get on Echolink, 99.99999% of the time it's through our local UHF repeater. If ya ever get a chance, Give me a shout on our repeater. Node # is 135043. I've talked to a few members from the forum.
