we talked lots years ago.
pauls wife got down sick n he quit. was 6 of us talked in a group on 15. now just me. the family had a farm auction n a friend was there,i had to work. they came to my friend n said give me that radio.
i had a very stout radio on my big truck n worked local. we talked nitely as i trucked.i had a string on 1 antenna.id pull on it n make my signal wave up n down.
1 friend was always thinking i was quite a way off n he always said he wanted my radio.
everybody but dave knew about my string. paul would see me in town n laugh hard about dave.
we had many visits on the radio. even if it never works again its staying in my house as im the only 1 left alive in our group

Our shop sold a lot of them back in the day. Those were very popular among the budget minded. For me, restoring the oldies is all about the joyful memories. That one is above average condition for its age. Most of them you see nowadays either has a dented grill or finger worn labels, but none the less, that’s a testament to their rugged use and longevity. Other than cleaning, recapping and crystal checking, I replace the bulbs with LED’s (less stress on the power supply) and rewire the jack to the Cobra standard.

they were a decent radio,real quiet in noisy conditions great filters. paul always sounded great on this radio

I am glad you have the memories and are the caretaker of his radio! A good friend of mine on the radio passed back in 2005 and the family gave me his prized radios. A Galaxy DX-66 and a 148GTL. I keep them close, and hook them up now and again to use them for a day or so.
