Funny...my son just turned 15 this summer and asked for a Members Only jacket!!
Okay, heres my take. I have a 2018 F250 crew cab. Big truck but nowhere to mount the radio in the cab due to the console. My radio has ssb so it's on the larger side mounted inside the console out of sight. I pulled the center console and ran all power wires and coax under and into the console. I put the external speaker in the small compartment that has a sliding door on top by the dash. Since the truck body is aluminum with a sun roof my antenna mounting choices were limited. I ended up going with a breedlove stake pocket mount for the passenger side rear. I use his quick disconnect mount with a 102" whip that stays under the bed cover when not in use. I tell you all this not to sound like I'm bragging but to show the hassle of mounting a system in a newer, larger vehicle. I believe cb could be that much more popular if, as other posters said radio manufacturers upgraded technology to packege the radios into smaller chassis and better technology. I am fortunate to be able to disassemble part of my interior to mount my system but for some people the hassle may be more than they are willing to do for a hobby. If its easier to mount and use the popularity will grow again.
I find the key in thinking is that it is the Citizen Band. Which is ENOUGH that ANY vehicle OUGHT to have both RADIO MOUNT SPACE and EASE OF CONNECTION plus SUFFICIENT ANTENNA GROUND PLANE.
I don’t think any of this a burden on manufacturing. Off Road Buggy to 24,000-lb heavy-haul Peterbilt. Some creative fun in engineering.

Co-operation the missing ingredient on the highways (the mobile use of CB, and a usage model), as:
1). Those who use the left lane of the Interstate as a travel lane (illegal) screw up the road for everyone else. (There are no exceptions to this).
2). In passing situations the failure by the one being passed to slow by 10-mph screws up the road for everyone else. (No exceptions).
3). CB Radio the missing ingredient to the recipe of man-to-man signals exchange to foment cooperation.
Constant radio use while traveling reveals the universal concern with risk abatement.
Secondarily, children and wives get to observe HOW politics is handled. Some is chatting about the weather. Some other is knowledge of what legislators are about that month.
“Manners” might make its’ return. Cooperation in a high risk activity that venue.

Actually, I expect it to get worse for awhile.
Private justice will have its moments.
Other — far larger — problems will cut this BS down in a hurry. CB has a role to play. Those who “key-down” (or other bad actors) are looking at a rope party in their honor given that CB is the ordinary mans emergency call for help.
Some ones family member loses their life (tried the CB, but it was blocked) will be that story.
No one will miss the perpetrator. The others might wise up.
I’ve had fun reminding the ones I can contact of this FACT. And encourage them to find a way to be helpful.

What are our radio choices for a so called "mid sized" vehicle? Gone are the days of a car/truck with a trans hump to mount a radio or enough room to mount a radio under the dash. Most all vehicles now have a console.
SBE made the AM 40 channel Stowaway back in the 70's that had a remote box with all the controls in the mic. The Anytone 6666 is small with a little extra power and ssb ( does the ssb have frequency drift)? Cobra makes a remote style am radio with all controls in the mic. Uniden has the wireless mic. A couple of Ham rigs have the remote box and removable face plate but do they sound good on AM?
Any thoughts?

If your thinking about that cobra 75 thing don't do it. Look at the uniden cmx760 instead.
For a CB only ssb radio I like my McKinley. It is DIN sized so if you car is double din you can fit it and an aftermarket stereo in the stock stereo spot. It has adjustable power right on the front so you can dial it down for an amp if you want more power.
I think the biggest issue with CB radio available today is the lack of SSB.
There are some pretty small AM/FM radios on the market:
Anytone Smart CB
Anytone Apollo II/Stryker SR-94HPC

but they are all AM/FM
The smallest AM/SSB Rig is DIN sized, which isn't that small...
Condiser space in vehiles these days... My old '98 Nissan Frontier XE (regular Cab, had room for an Icom IC-718, Icom IC-208H, and a Cobra 29/Roadpro Titan II/ what ever other CB I was running at the time) and Tx Star DX-500V between the seats in a console I made... after I pulled the bench seat out and put Xterra Bucket seats in it...
My current 2017 Nissan Frontier S (extended cab) already have a center console and now where to put radios in cleanly...
I have had the truck 2 years and still haven't actually mounted radios in it... but I have run a go-box/ammo can setup with mag mounts... which leaves a lot to be desired...
Is it worth petitioning the FCC for FM use on CB, or will the ARRL fight it?
