A local, older gentleman recently sent me a Golden Eagle 150 that needed some work. People are always ripping this guy off. So I offered to fix it for free.

Well for some reason the second you plug in the amp the second you plug in the unit the transformer starts humming.

I get the unit open and the actual amp, a 2 pill MRF455 is pretty much charred, one of the pills looks like it exploded and the relay was almost completely unsoldered.

I purchased a used RM Italy AD-203 4 mosfet stinger board for $30 shipped (Thank You bigmic)

It was simple enough to get the AD mounted to heat sink.

However I found that the power supply had been gutted! It now consisted of the following parts:

-110v to 28v transformer
- large capacitor (20v nominal/25v peak/17600 uF)
- 25A, 50V Full-Wave Bridge Rectifier

THAT IS ALL THAT WAS HOOKED UP! idle output voltage was around 21v, and 17.5v under load.

I knew this was just not going to work so I looked around and found a 2n3055e mounted to the heat sink but not hooked up, then in the scrap big I found a LM317t

the goal is to get around 14.5-15v at idle (just sitting there not doing anything) and no lower than upper 12s on SSB swing

does this collection of parts sound like it could handle the little stinger board?

Or should I add an additional 2n3055?
