How does the tuning process work? Do you just replace the final with a 1969? What would it do if you just replaced that? How do I get it to swing around 25watts or less?

Thanks

you dont need the 1969 to get 25 or less out of a 29 ...you do need somebody who knows a little about what there doing would help (-: some decent meters and such would also be a plus (-: a basic tune on one of those should yeld about 5 or 6 swing'in 20 to 24 watts with up to par audio .....the 1969 could give you a few more watts one way and many more watts another way ...ones just a little bit more know how then the other . i'd personally rather have a small amp take care of my extra power needs if need be ...then the radio would only have to work less to give me more (-: Welcome to the Forum 101

How would the radio perform if I JUST put a 1969 final in it? How many watts will it put out?

By doing nothing else but swapping the final would give you nothing. The radio still needs to be tuned for peak performance. Also, when you change to a 1969 final you should also change the driver as well.

Here is an example I had with a Cobra 29 several years ago. In bone stock trim the radio worked like this.

Dead key = 3.5 watts
AM Swing = 6-7 watts
Modulation= 60%

After a 25 dollar peak and tune here are the results.

Dead Key = 5.5 Watts
AM Swing = 22-24 Watts
Modulation = 100%

The tech also adjusted the receive giving the radio better ears. Keep in mind also that nothing was clipped or yanked from the radio and the final was NOT changed. Radio sounded louder, stronger, and talked and received farther. Nothing exotic here, just a simple tune.

So all I really need to do it to have it peaked and tuned. What kind of performance will I have by coming this radio (peaked and tuned) with that Palomar Deluxe Modulator 1? Can I just get by with that?

If you plan on running an amplifier in the future you might have a variable power mod done when you get it tuned. This can either be a hi lo or variable on a dial and can be done on the front of the radio. For example the hi lo can be done on the cb / pa switch. What this does is let you set the radio's dead key to work better with an amplifier. When you talk barefoot you can turn it all the way up or run on Hi.

Heck, if there are no techs in your area get with DTB radio right there. He can hook you up i'm sure.

If ALL you did was switch out the final for a 1969, you would actually see a very slight decrease. There are other parts that need to be changed before you see the gain that the 1969 can give.

BINGO.

i just bought a chrome cobra 29 a 2009 model , it has the mossfet finals in it , its peak and tuned it does 5 watts swings 30 watts . 100% mod , infact its wide open on this radio it sounds great.
