I know this sound strange. I drive a company semi truck and trailer. They wouldn't let me run power wires to the batteries so I turned the 98vhp down. I adjusted the carrier so on low it is at 2watts and on high its at 15watts carrier.

This allowed me to hook it up to the jacks on the dash. There is a 25amp fuse in the fuse box for that circuit. And its holding. I don't have a real power meter I can put in the truck to test the output that is accurate unfortunately so I don't know what kind of power I'm putting out.

Anyone got any kind of clue of guess?

Can anyone or does anyone have any reason this would NOT be OK?
Cause distortion on the audio because of the difference in carrier to pep? Anything at all?

I think I'm going to run it this way if its not going to harm it or cause any kind of issues for 5-6 months. Then when nobody is looking I'll run the power wires to the batteries and tune the radio back up.

Please if you know of any problems this might cause to the radio let me know.

Thanks...

The only two considerations would be even at the reduced carrier what is the peak wattage and peak amperage draw? Then you should look at what gage the wire is that feeds the dash posts. I hope it's at least #10 and #8 would be better. I would hope that before you got the truck the previous driver did not up-grade the fuse on his own if ya get my drift.

You hit it right on the top. It should have a 10 amp fuse in that circuit. Now im thinking i should tune the tx section as a dual final radio and put a switch to turn off the amp section.

Anyone agree with this therory or have another idea?

Well, I went by the instructions on bypassing the amp that I found on the 94hp and this kept the amp from keying up but it still draws 18-20amps during modulation. Something is not working like I thought it would. I want to put a switch in the radio so it acts like a dual final radio and not draw so many Amps from my truck and overload the 10amp circuit.

Can this be done or not?

I had a 98 VHP until i found out it was emitting spurs all up and down 15 meters then it went bye bye...
