Turner J450C and LMM-1 microphones

I recently picked up two NOS Turner mics that look very similar on the outside but are different inside. These things are built like tanks. I have re-wired both to 4 pin Cobra/Galaxy and they sound good to me on the air. The LMM Landcom mics were originally made as direct replacements for Motorola radios, they came with the correct connector for plug and play out of the box. I am not sure what market the 450C was originally intended for.

The 450C has a high-impedance ceramic cartridge, I think 50,000 ohms. It is meant to match either tube radios, or a solid-state radio with a high-impedance mike input like the FT101.

It's not meant for a solid-state CB. They typically match a mike with impedance under 1000 ohms.

I know of one exception. The Galaxy DX2517 feeds the mike audio directly to the echo board. Turns out that echo has a high input impedance. Not a perfect match for a non-amplified D104, but close. And probably just fine for the 450C.

Nomad, here is the Specs that were in the box with the J450C. They did make two versions, one for relay switching and one for electronic. Like all Turner mics the added J meant electronic.
It sounds fine to me on my monitor, will using it damage the radio?

Not at all. If it sounds right, you're good to go.
