hi all, got a tx star 250 hdv that works great am and ssb sounds great to. my problem is the relay on ssb chatters more than it should compared to other ssb amps iv had. others would kik on when talking and maybe click a little inbetween words a bit. this one chatters pretty much and bugs me. like I said it does sound real good to every one though.

I am running 40 amp supply which is plenty.

is there an adjustment or not. what part controls this?

Thanks.

Just wanted to ad that is was working nice a little bit ago. in ssb the relay klicked in and stayed most words and when I stoped talking it had a very slight delay and then clicked off. thats how it shoulb be.

but it is intermitant

Now it went completely bad. The relay thing is chattering like crazy and sounds like a small motor running as soon as I key the mic without saying a word in the mic, just by keying mic.

The power in is plenty, it is fed by 40amp power supply and hooked to my Cobra 2000 GTL set up to dk 4watts am and about 10-12 watts ssb.

It worked a few days back so I donnt know what changed.

Is there a # to call in CA to talk to the company that builds and sells these TX amps?

Thanks,
AP

I'd agree on a bad connection. You might want to check around C4, 1000 mfd cap by the relay. That is the cap which keeps the relay keyed while in the SSB mode. I've seen a lot of the cut out of circuit. You can change it to a higher value to hold the key longer also.

With SSB switch "on", check for B+ (13.8v) on the + leg of C4. If no B+, then you can always bypass a bad SSB switch and wire B+ direct from input. I have seen several C4 legs that became unsoldered from PCB or corroded/broken off bottom of cap.
